Summary:

  • Push Email, Push Calendar, Push Contacts, Global Contacts, Cisco IPsec VPN, Certificates and Identities, WPA2, Enforced Security Policies, Device Configuration and Remote Wipe are all coming to the next iPhone Software Update.
  • However, Update will not be released until June.
  • ActiveSync and Microsoft Exchange for iPhone.
  • SDK for Developers is the same one that Apple in-house developers use.
  • SDK Available Today for Free
  • Source Editor, Project Management, Integrated Source Control, Integrated Documentation, Remote degugger and an iPhone Simulator (all for Mac) are all part of the iPhone SDK.
  • Also Includes an Interface Builder for making your Applications look nice and iPhone like. It uses a drag and drop interface.
  • EA Games demonstrated the ‘Spore’ game for iPhone while Sega demonstrated Sega ‘Super Monkey Ball’. It uses the Accelerometer only while they insist that these are not Phone Games, but Console Games.
  • AIM for iPhone! (What more do we have to say except it supports Invisible Mode.)
  • Jobs announces AppStore, similar to the iTunes Store, except for Applications. Downloads via Edge or Wi-Fi.
  • No charge to developers or users for Applications marked as ‘FREE’.
  • For Paid Apps - 70% of Revenues goes to Developer.
    Beta Software Release iPhone v2.0 released today.
  • $99 or €64 (approx) to Publish your own App.
  • AppStore free for iPhone users, nominal fee for iPod Touch.
  • ‘iFund’ of 100,000,000 (that’s 100 million) to help get Apps out there and start-up developers.
  • VOIP Applications limited to Wi-Fi..not cellular.
  • Jobs was quizzed about Apple being the sole distributor of Apps and having a possible ‘Monopoly’…responding by saying it’s the only way for developers to get their Applications in front of every iPhone user.
  • iPhone Sim Unlocking Applications (and presumably JailBreaking Ones) are not allowed (obviously).
  • Nominal Fee for iPod Touch will be set in June. (€20, $20, we’re not sure!)
