YouTube does what?

Some quotes taken from the comments section of the YouTube Announcement blog.
Well apparently, Google just isn’t making the money they want. So. What did they do, they literally threw the knife in their own back and added ads that cover 1/5 of the video you’re trying to watch. Well ehemm, how do you get rid of the ads? The ads will automatically disappear after 10 seconds, and will go away if you click the X, If you do fancy what the ad is “advertising” just click on it and it will suddenly prompt the ad. When you’re finished watching the ad that mislead you, the video should restart in the position you left off.

So, let’s get commenting. Is Google’s attempt at bursting their pockets going to be detrimental? Would it really annoy you that much? And what would you pay monthly to remove the ads? You can see the angry, and the little bit less annoyed YouTube Community comments here.

What? ADS!? If you continue to put ads on videos until every single video has them, I am NOT going to use YouTube ever again. I will simply switch to another service. (clue: I already use it.)

An Angry YouTube user

This could very will be the beginning of the end for Youtube. Network television has become intolerable to watch with the relentless ads (Thank God for DVR’s). Please Don’t do this to Youtube. If you try to monetize the work of others with a barrage of hideous video ad overlays the community will go elsewhere. If you are truly looking to improve the experience with us in mind, place ad’s sparingly on the the top, bottom or side of the videos. However please don’t get ridiculous about it like weather.com or porn sites do. A concerned YT fan

A concerned / Slightly Angry YouTube fan.

A little more than half of the viewers tested simply turned off the ad, but that is offset by the five to 10 times more users who would click on the overlay, rather than respond to our traditional banner ads. That’s a pretty tempting market to court when trying to figure out a way to make a service like YouTube become profitable.

The overlay which holds the adds, resembles the look of the VideoEgg ad integration. -Ed
