iPhone unlocked? Yep.

Over the weekend, while we remained low-key, Engadget and Gizmodo
have been posting various news about the first software only unlock. We did a bit of research..had a look around the web, and within hours, a subsidiary of Uniquephones.com had promised a 12 midday EST (U.S. Time) or 5pm GMT (Europe) software only unlock download at a cost of 25-50 dollars.
So now we had an Engadget Confirmed unlock, to be released next week..(which we assume is tomorrow, Monday 27th of August, and an untested unlock that was to launch today until they received a small little (yes, I’m seriously under-emphasizing) call from a law firm, that happened to be working for at&t. The Unique Phones Subsidiary has since posted a press release explaining that well, they’re not able to release the software, until they understand their own legal position.
Until an assessment is made of the potential of legal action, Uniquephones is unable to release the unlocking software for sale. The company spokesperson also said that the company would also be evaluating what to eventually do with the software should they be legally denied the right to sell it.
So, this leaves us wondering has the other site, iPhoneSimFree been approached by the at&t law representatives? Will the software go on sale tomorrow and can anyone provide a clarification as their site has remained the same and we are not receiving any response from them via e-mail?
We’d be happy if you dropped us a comment below as this could mean no soldering, or messing about with sim cards. -Ed
