iPhone hacking breakthrough! Jailbreak, unlock, Touch apps, and more!

hackingupdate.jpg

So it’s been a busy morning and night in the Apple hacking world!

iPod Touch: The iPod touch has been hacked to run mail, Google maps and all the rest of the applications that are available for the iPhone.

iPhone: Has been jailbreaked, unbricked (from it’s previously bricked state after updating to 1.1.1, including locked, and unlocked phones) and unlocked by iPhoneSimFree.

So a round-up.

o The iPhone Dev Team have jailbreaked the iPhone and iPod Touch at v1.1.1
o Due to the jailbreak, iPhoneSimFree were now able to fully unbrick previously bricked iPhones (from upgrading to v1.1.1 with a previously unhacked or fully hacked phone)
o Then, iPhoneSimFree are able to fully unlock any iPhone on all versions of firmware and Modem Firmware (including v1.1.1.).

We will be viewing and using a fully unlocked v1.1.1 iPhone, and will be testing BMW’s iPod Touch/iPhone music management software later on this afternoon with full pictures.-Ed

    Hi Ed,

I brought an unblocked iphone back from new york on sunday. It functions perfectly with my Meteor chip and I am really pleased I bought it now. I have wireless broadband at home which I can hook nto when I’m there however I can’t seem to go on line or check emails or wheather etc. I keeps saying “EDGE is not activated and that I am not subscribed and then it says “Safari cannot open the page because it cannot find the server.” I have called Meteor and they haven’t got the WAP or MMS settings for the iphone yet.

    Can you help?????

    Many thanks
    Aoife

Hi Aoife! First of all, welcome to TechnoEssence.com

    Firstly,

You can download the correct EDGE|GPRS SETTINGS from mymeteor on http://www.meteor.ie Enter your number + pin and login and it says you can download the setting somehow from inside (Should be straight forward). There are also other methods of doing this, but the above is the most viable. Remember, it’s GPRS or EDGE. (not 3G, WAP or MMS)

    Secondly, if that doesn’t work:

You’d want to ring them and say that you need their EDGE/GPRS settings, and don’t mention what phone you have just in case (because they do have a policy about only supporting phones bought from them) If they do ask, say that you have a Nokia ___ and your nephew deleted the settings. Tell them that it is urgent as you have a meeting in 30 minutes and will need it for a presentation (obviously do this at a feasible hour of the day)!

Thirdly, if the above two don’t work:
You probably know someone on Meteor, browse their phone’s settings menu, look for GPRS or EDGE, (not 3G, WAP or MMS)

Once you do get the settings, you can enter them into your iPhone by browsing into settings, then General, Network, and EDGE. The settings you should have are APN (isp also) Username and password. Enter them in and hit

    Got it working! on meteor.
You need to ask for activation on isp internet access, call 1905. Then use these settings
    APN: isp.mymeteor.ie
    Username: my
    Password: isp

the proxy url 10.85.85.85 & port 8799 do not work and are not required so ignore all of the other posts.
    good luck all

    Hi,

I was just wondering when you ring metoer to asl and get set up for GPRS setting what phone should i say i am using. (1) Will the settings be different if i say im using for instance, a nokia? (2) If they find out im using an iphone can they block me from using it? When i logged onto download the settings the knew i was using an iphone, but any previous time ive got a new phone and wanted settings, they always need to ask me what phone i got even though i had started using it a couple of weeks before..
